Boréalis today announced a new partnership with Bolivian company Cumbre del Sajama, a privately owned service provider pro social development for companies, cooperatives, communities, local organisations and public institutions linked to the mining industry. This is Boréalis’ seventh partnership of this kind in Latin America, where a combination of services, local expertise and software maximises outcomes for both businesses and communities.

With over 18 years’ experience as a consulting and advising firm for mining companies, Cumbre del Sajama’s mission is to promote social responsibility and practices throughout the lifecycle of extractive projects, across all sectors: private, cooperatives and public. The firm’s approach takes into account social, economical, legal and environmental contexts by identifying stakeholders and authorities with studies prior to the project operation.

The combined expertise of Boréalis and Cumbre del Sajama will transform CSR practices in the Bolivian mining industry. Through the combination of a deep understanding of the local market, peoples, culture and local presence with a web-based application that’s been developed on international projects, it will be easier to assess and meet the specific needs of clients.

Daniel Lafuente, Project Manager, clarifies: “Combining the Boréalis software with our knowledge and expertise of local dynamics will greatly benefit many mining projects in Bolivia and even in surrounding countries.” Ana María Aranibar Jiménez, General Manager, adds: “We believe that social responsibility is key to the success of mining projects and enabling companies, state and communities to define common goals in respect of local customs has a direct impact on the social license to operate.”

“We’re excited to count Cumbre del Sajama as the newest member of our growing partner network,” explains Olivier Chaumont, Account Director for Latin America. “Each country has a very unique culture and for international companies like us, it can add an extra level of challenge. Luckily, partnerships with local experts like Cumbre del Sajama give us the opportunity to better help companies, state and communities work hand in hand towards sustainable outcomes.”

Organisations interested by the services or the application can contact Cumbre del Sajama in Bolivia (cumbredelsajama@gmail.com) or Boréalis (olivier.chaumont@boreal-is.com).
